i have made an important discovery. the gangsey and the backyardigans are the SAME. like i’m entirely convinced that maggie watched the show and was like yeah i could write a book about that

tyrone IS the best backyardigan this is barely even up for debate. he's the best protagonist when he gets to be (think magic skateboard, to the center of the earth, who goes there?, a giant problem, super team awesome, ESCAPE FROM FAIRYTALE VILLAGE) and does equally amazing as a supporting character (international super spy, samurai pie, monster detectives). he has the funniest running catchphrase ("well, that's certainly convenient!", "i certainly wasn't expecting that!") and has a designated line ESSENTIAL to the ending of every episode ("that was a great (type) adventure, wasn't it?") that only goes to another character if tyrone isn't there. also he's orange and he's a moose and he has big silly antlers and really that's all one needs in this world

I was around 3-5, and I would sing "Into The Thick of It" from The Backyardigans constantly. Sometimes other people would join along.

It was one of my favorite Nick Jr shows, right up there with Blue's Clues and Ni-Hao Kai Lan. (does anyone even remember that show?) I watched for the adventures, for the characters, for the entertainment, for the joy it gave me. The songs were catchy. The characters were not like other preschool shows of the time-Tyrone the orange moose, Austin the purple kangaroo, Pablo the blue penguin, Tasha the yellow hippo, Uniqua the pink...well, whatever Uniqua is. They were loveable. They were like the friends I didn't really have.

Today I got the news creator Janice Burgess passed away.

I'm devastated. I loved that show. Heck, part of me still does. I loved the songs. I loved the characters. I loved the stories and the adventures the characters went on. It made backyards fun for me. I can picture myself in the living room, on the couch or in my little mini rocking chair I decorated with Hello Kitty stickers, watching Pablo's antics or singing along to what Uniqua was singing. A lot has changed since then; I got glasses, I hit puberty, I started having issues with my mental health. But I still had the nostalgia from the Backyardigans and their many adventures-as spies, as astronauts, as knights, as ghosts.
